Resources

Below are a few of my favorite birth- and pregnancy-related resources.

reading at home, birth doula
Websites

Evidence Based Birth - a fantastic website with clear, easily digestible data and analysis on a wide variety of situations you may encounter during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. They also have a podcast.

What is a doula? - A short video that outlines the roles of a doula

Reddit - Seriously! But only a small subset of reddit. Every month, there is a subreddit for individuals who are due during that month (ex. the September2024Bumpers). This can be an amazing source of support and community during your pregnancy and beyond. My December 2019 group is still alive, hopping, and have truly become some of my dearest 'friends'.

Floor Core and Restore Antenatal Classes - given by an Australian midwife at the beginning of the pandemic, this is a fantastic, 8-class series that covers a huge variety of birth situations and does an amazing job making birthers believe that they can, in fact, do this thing, in whichever way they choose to get it done. It's donation-based.

Spinning Babies, especially Daily Essentials: Baby positioning is a crucial part of labor, and your movement during pregnancy can help a lot!

Podcasts

The Birth Hour - my favorite podcast for listening to birth stories. I find that listening to other birthers' stories can be an amazing way to prepare yourself for your birth!

Australian Birth Stories - I may not be Australian, but I also love this podcast

Big Fat Positive - Two friends found out they were pregnant at the same time. This tracks their pregnancies and pospartum journeys. They are very funny!

Birth Kweens - no longer active, but this was a doula and midwife talking all things birth. They have some great evidence-based discussions, some wonderful birth stories, and just about everything in between!

Books

Ina May's Guide to Childbirth - Ina May Gaskin

The Birth Partner - Penny Simkin

Precious Little Sleep - Alexis Dubief

Apps

Maven App - This app connects you with a huge variety of perinatal specialists. Therapists, pelvic floor PT, lactation, doctors and nurses, you name it. They are all either on-demand or available within 24 hours. Your work may offer this!
